Juul Labs’ JUUL2 system has been awarded Product of the Year 2023 in the ‘Vaping & Heated Tobacco Products’ category, following an independent nationwide survey of 8,000 adult consumers by Kantar.

The annual Product of the Year Award is the largest and most comprehensive study of product innovation in the UK, shortlisted by a panel of experts and awarded by the public.

Of the award, Efe Abebe-Heywood, Snr Director of Communications & Brand at Juul Labs UK said: “We are extremely proud that our commitment to product quality and innovation has been recognised by the voters who awarded JUUL2 this accolade. Our new JUUL2 system has marked a step change in vapour technology, providing adult smokers with a product that more closely resembles the consistency and experience of combustible cigarettes to support them on their switching journey.

Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the UK, and we remain committed to our mission at Juul Labs to transition even more adult smokers from cigarettes, while combating underage use.

The 2023 Award coincides with the launch of a new JUUL2 Blackcurrant Tobacco variant – a classic tobacco flavour with ripe blackcurrant notes, which further extends the JUUL2 portfolio in the UK. The new Blackcurrant Tobacco JUULpods launched on the JUUL website in January and will be rolled out across all major retailers nationally.

Outlining the company’s ambitions for the UK, John Patterson, Country Lead of JUUL Labs UK commented: “It is testament to our continued focus on technological innovation, adult-focused portfolio range, and responsible market stewardship that we’ve been awarded recognition as Product of The Year in the Vaping and Heated Tobacco Products category.

We have been encouraged by the number of adult smokers and vapour users who have transitioned to the new JUUL2 system since launch last year, and we are confident that the introduction of our new Blackcurrant Tobacco pods will provide even more adult smokers with greater choice to help them move away from combustible cigarettes.”

JUUL2 was launched in April 2022 following a successful pilot launch on Juul.co.uk. The rechargeable pod-based system was updated from previous versions with new technologies and features, including the capability to combat potentially harmful and compatible pods, striking a blow to the illicit trade market of JUUL products.

All UK retailers stocking JUUL products are expected to uphold the company’s ‘Challenge 25’ age verification policy and are subject to continued mystery shopping audits. The company is also trialling a take-back and recycling programme for used pods and devices, which it hopes to roll out later this year.

“We have focussed our resources on the development of technologies aimed at transitioning smokers and combating unauthorised and underage use of our products” Patterson continued.

“As part of our goal to eliminate combustible cigarettes, we will continue working collaboratively with retailers and key stakeholders to ensure a more responsible and environmentally sustainable marketplace as the sector evolves.”
